Revelation 7:1
"And after these things I saw four angels standing on FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree."
Job 38:13
"That it might take hold of the ENDS OF THE EARTH, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?"
"that it might take the earth by the EDGES and shake the wicked out of it? (From the NIV Bible, Job 38:13)"
Pillers?:
"He shakes the earth from its place and makes its PILLARS tremble. (From the NIV Bible, Job 9:6)"
The Quran on the other hand says:
"He made the earth egg-shaped." (Quran 79:30)Bible - The Earth is flat? Has pillars and edges?
The Bible is wrong about so many of these details that it is obvious that it was written by primitive men armed only with the knowledge they had then rather than what we know now. Just a nonsense fairy story that so-called intelligent people still fail to subjectively question in these modern times.
They did not have maps as we do today, but knew
there were directions of N.S. E. and West.
People thought the earth was flat for a long time.
There was a flat earth society at one time.Columbus
"even" thought the earth was flat. At one time they
thought they would sail off the end of the earth if they
went too far. It is not stupidity, the matter simply
was not investigated.
I could be wrong but when some one states
"to the ends of the earth" they usually mean the entire
earth, all over the earth, in every niche and cranny.
Such as I will follow you to the ends of the earth,
that means they will go any where and every where.
Some Bibles have concordances in the back, and some have columns down the center. They may also
have footnotes explaining those things or at least
expressing thoughts on the subject.
Remember they used stars to guide them, astronomy.
They did not have what we have today like telescopes
and compasses. I think they are talking of earthquakes
in one place. God does control the weather.
Bible - The Earth is flat? Has pillars and edges?
You have a good point. But the earth is not egg shaped either. You could take this as being allegorical but then you would also have to take the bible quotes as allegorircal too.
So, if you want to be literal (which I think you are) then both the Bible and the Qu'ran are incorrect in their descriptions of the earth.
Why does neither say "the earth is spherical, spins on it's axis and orbits the sun in the vacuum of space. The moon orbits the earth every 28 days. This is why we have seasons, and days and nights and tides..."?
Haven't you ever visited the edges? They're lovely this time of year. Of course in the winter, everybody goes down to see the pillars tremble, but personally, I like to wait until the peak of summer, and take a great big road trip to see all four corners.
Best of luck,

Of course now it's only a metaphor.
Muslims have not made many contributions to science, the advances in science were made by the Persians and Babylonians before they were conquered by Islam. Monotheism tends to bog things down, look at Europe the past millenia.
Roy W. If crap doesn't come out then you're not doing it properly.
its a form of expression...
If you beat the crap out of someone, you don't literally beat them until crap is forced out of the human body, right?
I think you may be taking it a little to seriously.
...The Qu'ran also says a man should scourge and beat his wife(s)... Qu'ran 4:34.
The Holy Bible says the Earth is round. Isaiah 40:22
The Earth is more round than egg-shaped.
Bible 1 - Koran 0.
No the world is a disk, it sits on the back of 5 giant Elephants and the Elephants stand on the great Turtle.
The Turtle Moves!!!!
It's called a met鈰卆鈰卲hor.
That flat earth garbage website has got to be a joke.
The Earth is a sphere, not a oval. this is just 1 of the many proofs the quran is wrong.
Believe it or not muslims brought science into the world...
And the bible was written a long time ago.. they couldnt think the way we could and the world was flat to them... so what?
There both right
You are taking the Bible out of context. There are definitely pillars on the earth. It means the structures on the earth that are man made. Not pillars of heaven or the earth itself! Also, the four corners of the earth simply mean all four directions (North, South, East, West). Four directions in other words? The Earth is not flat in the Bible, but spherical:
"It is He who sits above the CIRCLE OF THE EARTH, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in" Isaiah 40:22.
Circle in Hebrew is chewg meaning spherical (circle of expanse) or dancing in a procession much like the planets do. Look it up! Before you go criticizing the Bible, better do some research. Isaiah knew the earth was round and spherical long before Columbus and the Age of Modern Space Travel. If any dork looks up into the sky at the sun, does he not see it's round? What about the moon? Isaiah never traveled into space to see the earth at such a distance, or even observe it as a circle in the sky. How would he know? Easy! God told him.
As for taking the edges of the earth by the corners? That's just simply saying that God can smite the wicked men on the earth just like they're standing on a table cloth. He can take the world out from under them. Like the flood for instance? Put some ants on a table, and throw a gallon of water on the table cloth, and see what happens to those ants. God hates the wickedness men do, but not the sinner himself.
