And also that the earth is still while the sun and stars rotate around it.
Or that we have a hard dome covering the earth which holds the sun moon and stars, and which god walks upon.
Then maybe you haven't read these scriptures:
(Gen 1:6-7 NRSV) And God said, "Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters."
(Gen 1:14-17 NRSV) And God said, "Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, and let them be lights in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth." And it was so. God made the two great lights鈥搕he greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night鈥揳nd the stars.
God set them in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth,
(Prov 8:26-27 NRSV) when he had not yet made earth and fields, or the world鈥檚 first bits of soil. When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
(Isa 40:22 NRSV) It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to live in;
(Job 37:18 NRSV) Can you, like him, spread out the skies, hard as a molten mirror?
(Job 22:14 NRSV) Thick clouds enwrap him, so that he does not see, and he walks on the dome of heaven.鈥?
(Psa 93:1 NRSV) 鈥?He has established the world; it shall never be moved;
(1 Sam 2:8 NRSV) For the pillars of the earth are the Lord鈥檚, and on them he has set the world.
(Isa 24:18 NRSV) or the windows of heaven are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble.
BTW Ancient Hebrew has a separate word for sphere or ball from circle, so the author of these passages really did
mean circle and dome rather than sphere.Do you really think that the bible doesn't say that the earth is flat?
It also speaks of the four corners of the earth.
If you had any understanding at all you would realize that this is poetic language and is not intended to convey scientific data.
If the weatherman told you it was going to be a red sky at sunset, would you assume the fool actually believed the sun was going down ?
Incidentally - none of the passages you cite state the "earth is flat".
Yes, only a person who lacks reading comprension skills would think the Bible says the Earth is flat. Of course there are also dishonest people who deliberately lie about what the Bible says.
Obviously the Bble uses figures of speech. Metaphors, allegories, and such just as we use in our daily speech.
You mentioned Hebrew and Greek. If you can actually read it you will know that much of the Bible is poetry.
When Jesus said he cast out demons by the finger of God do you really think he was saying a big ol' finger swooped down from the heavens and thumped the demon out? Only a fool would think that.
Luk 11:20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.Do you really think that the bible doesn't say that the earth is flat?
You should have pointed those out in the Middle Ages, not 2009.
If you take those quotes literally, as the Bible usually is by way too many people, then yes, the earth is flat. The sun and moon and stars rotate around this disk on a pedestal that is called earth, with "God" and the angels walking on clouds high above it all. Paints a pretty nifty picture if you have the imagination for it all.Do you really think that the bible doesn't say that the earth is flat?
It's strange that, according to Bible believers, every single verse in the Bible that indicates the earth is flat is just poetic expression or a figure of speech.
The fact of the matter is that there is not one single passage anywhere in the Bible that indicates the earth is a sphere. Every single passage in the Bible that indicates anything about the cosmos supports what you said. And just because a certain passage is in the form of poetry, that doesn't mean that it doesn't reflect what the writer actually believed about the cosmos.
In his book, The Biblical Cosmos Versus Modern Cosmology, David Presutta presents a very extensive look at the biblical passages relating to the biblical cosmos. He pretty much makes the case.
