Fellow Christians, do you believe that the Earth is flat and the Sun revolves around the Earth?

Before I begin, I would like to say that I am not saying the Bible is fake, or that the Bible shouldn't be believed, but it should be read both literally and metaphorically...

Samuel Rowbotham supported the notion of a flat Earth, based on literal interpretation of certain biblical passages. After Rowbotham's death in 1884, his followers established the Universal Zetetic Society. In 1956, Samuel Shenton took over the Universal Zetetic Society, which would later become the Flat Earth Society. The Flat Earth Society took the position that the Apollo Moon landings were a hoax, because the photos of Earth taken from Apollo 8 was spherical and not flat. The Flat Earth Society still exists today under president Daniel Shenton...

These are the Biblical references that the Flat Earth Society thinks supports the notion of a flat Earth, because if taken literally, the Bible says the Earth is flat, has four corners, has ends, possibility of falling of the edges of the Earth, about a tree so high that it was visible from any place on Earth, the Earth is set on pillars and cannot move.

Isaiah 40:22: It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth...

Isaiah 11:12: ...the four corners of the earth.

Revelation 7:1: ...I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth...

Job 38:13: That it might take hold of the ends of the earth...

Jeremiah 16:19: ...the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth...

Daniel 4:11: The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth.

Psalm 93:1 and Psalm 96:10: ...the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

Psalm 104:5: Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.

Job 9:6: Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

Job 38:4: Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?

Job 37:3: He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

Job 28:24: For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;.

1 Samuel 2:8: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them.

Also, the Flat Earth Society believes that the Sun orbits around the Earth, based on this Biblical reference:

Ecclesiastes 1:5: The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.

http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/febible.htmFellow Christians, do you believe that the Earth is flat and the Sun revolves around the Earth?
The belief that the earth was the centre of the universe was upheld by Ptolemy (born circa 85, died circa 165). This view was held by most educated Greeks since the time of Aristotle and was adopted by the Catholic Church. Then, in 1543, Copernicus put forward an alternative model to Ptolemy's universe and Galileo was tried for heresy by the Catholic Church in 1633 for advocating the Copernican model. Astonishingly, it took the Roman Catholic Church till 1992 to finally acknowledge that Galileo was right and they were wrong to condemn him and put him under arrest. 499 years to admit they were wrong!

Isaiah 40:22 disproves the flat earth idea and the expression about the sun rising and setting and going to the place from which it arose is simply a way of describing what the eye sees when the sun rises and then sets. We still say the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, but we don't mean the sun moves round the earth! To answer your question, no, Christians do not advocate a flat earth or Ptolemy's idea that the earth was the centre of the universe.
There are some who call themselves Christians who believe in Creationism and ID, they will believe anything as long as it is in the bible. So they must believe the earth is flat and that the Sun orbits around the Earth or they they are just liars.Fellow Christians, do you believe that the Earth is flat and the Sun revolves around the Earth?
LOL christians may believe in god and jesus and stuff, but they arent dumb enough to belive the earth is flat.

Theres pictures taken from space shuttles of the earth. and its definitely round. -.-

Science wins this time.
Perhaps you can attend the Christian Flat Earth Conference next year. It was just over a week ago.Fellow Christians, do you believe that the Earth is flat and the Sun revolves around the Earth?
...you answer is actually found in Scripture.
Ganon will tell you many things, even sometimes mix in half truths, but rest assured they are all attempts to bring fear and deceit into your heart.
The "Flat Earth" is how Rationality perceived Reality in the radle of its existence. Not only the Bible recalls earliest civilization seeing the Earth as flat, but the Hindu as well... The perception of a Flat Earth as literal, but belong to that era.

In the spiritual sense, the Flat Earth is how a child starts perceiving the world around it. Much later, the child starts cracking its head why the Universe is accelerating its expanding and all that.

In all, the Flat Earth is a metaphor of a phase of the maturing of Life. So, Daniel Shenton is either behaving toward others as if they are idiots, or he is "behaving as if the world is flat" - and idiot himself. In any case, that is not different from what Tom Cruise is doing...

There will always be idiots around...
You haven't done your word studies my friend. Isaiah, and Job's references to the "Sphere of the Earth," refer to not a round disk, but to a round earth.

Also remember, Job, (the earliest book of the bible) knew nothing about science. It is quoted later in Job that the earth does indeed go around the sun. Now how would Job know that in roughly 3000 b.c.?

The Bible is the story of God's redemptive plan for man, not a science book, though, as I said, if you do your word studies, (I suggest you purchase Kiel %26amp; Dielitche O.T. Hebrew commentaries) you'd find most of your references are erroneous.
This argument is based on the KJV and not the Hebrew translation. Secondly Isaiah 40:22 does not claim earth is round. Please read it again.

It states that he (God) sits upon the CIRLCE OF EARTH. The word translated ?circle? in the English is `chuwg` it means to be round or the vault of the heavens. So it isn't talking about earth. It is speaking about the firament which does appear as a circle or round from space.
First about the Earth being flat the bible does not say that. People already believed that when they heard the Bible and so misinterpreted some passages: the four corners of the world are the four cardinal points, the foundations are the forces that maintain the earth, the circle is the ecuador.

About the earth being in the center of the Universe, no one can actually say if it is or not because you have a moving system inside another moving side inside another moving system.... and so on. So you cannot determine if something has absolute motion, or somethings absolute position. The part with being in the centre probably was a misinterpretation of the earth being the most important thing in the universe (the only planet with life...duhhh) . And the Ecclesiastes says something very simple and true: the sun always rises from the East and goes down on the West. You can check with a compass if you do not believe.
Nope. I do not believe that the earth if flat.

The bible tends to give us a different picture because our meaning of the word earth is

different and the OT people's meaning of the word earth is different.

In the olden days, usage of the word earth was limited to the land crust.

Also, people lived on one single continent (Europe+Asia+Africa).

Also, OT people never thought that the earth was flat and that seas surrounded the earth.

If they had tought that the earth was flat and that seas surounded the earth crust

then they would have never thought about crossing the red sea to go to a different land.

Also, most of the bible verses are poetic in nature and hence use strong metaphors.

We should not consider them as scientific facts.

Last but not the least, do not think that every word in the standard bible was inspired by God.
Of course not.

Even people who are used to navigate and use the compass speaks about the four corners of the earth. It is a navigational concept that is old as man. The magnetic compass has been known for thousands of years, North, South, East, and West, the four corners of the earth.
Stop picking bits and pieces out of the Bible and claiming it to be a "fact" I look at the Bible as a reference tool personally. We must remember the Bible was in fact written by MAN,though "directed by God" these things may have been revised to suite kings/rulers and translated during a period when in fact if King James didn't "like something" the scholar was KILLED. So to say the earth is flat because "to be taken literally" well go back and come on with another line of defecation my friend, and let's see if it's any better than this?
The only word that's in any way connected to the word metaphor in the Bible is "parable".

A "parable" is a short moral story; a fable. Saying the Earth has four corners, or is a circle, does not have anything to do with morals.

So, if they were speaking metaphorically, why wouldn't they say so? It doesn't mention metaphor at all in the Bible.

It WAS meant to be taken literally. It's been proven wrong. People still believe in that joke of a book.
She was as big as a house!

Should this be taken metaphorically or literally?

GROW UP!

The point of literary genre is a person is supposed to be MATURE enough to know when to use what for what instead of truncating words and phrases that serve no purpose.

GROW UP!

Obviously, you are not mature enough to know the difference.

This is why so many Christians say......."CONTEXT" !
Religion is just a way of making people feel safe and secure about the afterlife, no one wants to hear that they just die, they want it to be a happy ending like a movie, so even if there is fool hard proof (there is a lot of fool hard proof) to prove that most religions are wrong they are not going to let reason and logic get in the way of their fairy tale stories.

A man cross dresses in a womans white dress, imprints it with a few gold symbols, is told by a another cross dressing man that his important and becomes a priest. (same process with pope) I dont get how priests and bishops or even the pope is holy, they make a living out of giving people false hope and often scamming them out of donations. Yes most of these donations go to charity but you dont need to be a church or even religious to be kind or generous, this is a idea made by the church.

Christianity

The belief that a cosmic jewish zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh, drink his blood and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.......

yeah makes perfect sense
