Creationists: Why do you believe the earth is spherical?

1 Samuel 2:8

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the PILLARS OF THE EARTH are the Lord's, and he hath set the world upon them.

Job 9:6

He shakes the earth from its place

and makes its PILLARS tremble.

Psalm 75: 3

When the earth and all its people quake,

it is I who hold its PILLARS firm.

Isaiah 41:9

I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest CORNERS I called you. I said, 'You are my servant'; I have chosen you and have not rejected you.

Isaiah 11:12

And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the FOUR CORNERS of the earth.

Revelation 7:1

After this I saw four angels standing at the FOUR CORNERS of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree.

Revelation 20:8

And will go out to deceive the nations in the FOUR CORNERS of the earth鈥擥og and Magog鈥攖o gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore.Creationists: Why do you believe the earth is spherical?
Excuse you...they decided not to pick and choose these parts for their cafeteria-style Bible choosing.
The Earth is not spherical. Because it's circumference at the equator is greater than at any other place on the globe. Because of centrifugal force it is squashed down at the equator.Creationists: Why do you believe the earth is spherical?
I see you did your home work.

it should be clear to everybody that the world is FLAT

supported by the angel Atlas who is standing on a slow moving Turtle floating in a tranquil Ocean
The language in all of these is clearly figurative.Creationists: Why do you believe the earth is spherical?
Pillars are foundations.

4 corners and North, south, East, and West.

Ends of the Earth means all over the surface.
You might as well nit pick the nuances of santa claus with a five year old...
Zhu po's answer is a win.
I have looked to the ENDS OF THE EARTH, and I can't find my Clementine.

If you hurt my family, I will hunt you to the FOUR CORNERS of the earth.

The earthuake in San Francisco shook the PILLARS OF THE EARTH.
"And that, my liege, is how we know the world to be banana shaped."
By your logics, if your local newspaper list the time of sun raise and sun set for each day, does that mean the newspaper believes in a geocentric universe?

Or if we take about the sun being high in the sky at noon, does that mean we believe the sun is moving around the earth?

The phrase "four corners" comes from the four directions of compass, which exist whether you are on a flat or spherical earth. Originally maps where down with north, south, east and west each at a corner of the map, rather than the way we draw them today with each direction at the side of the map. So the world was considered to have "four corners". In fact, it is still a common phrase today, even though we know the world is a sphere.

Neither does the phrase "end of the earth". It merely refers to something that is beyond the horizon, and usually beyond our experience and knowledge. It is a common phrase used even today, when we know the world is a sphere.

All the scriptures listed show is that people in the Bible days spoke and though much the same way we do today. And they often use phrase that are based on the way that the world looks to a casual observer rather then phrase that are 100% scientifically accurate. The Bible was never intended to be a book of science and to explain the nature of geography or physics. But rather is a book that talks about the nature of God, man, sin and salvation. The other subjects, like the shape of the world, are pointless to the subject.
*sigh* troll.

"Ends of the earth": To the farthest points in all directions, as in from America, the "ends of the earth" would be around the middle east.

"Pillars of the earth": A figurative way of saying that God keeps the planet from falling apart(from earthquakes, etc). I don't see how "pillars" would suggest a flat earth.

"Four corners of the earth": Even today, it is understood to be as far as you can go North, South, East, and West. Even when people DID think the earth was flat, they held it to be circle-shaped, so they NEVER thought it had literal corners to begin with.
