Books similar in spirit and good read as 'pillars of the earth'?

i've already read the squealBooks similar in spirit and good read as 'pillars of the earth'?
How about Umberto Eco? His book The Name of the Rose was very good, they made a movie out it with Sean Connery.

The closest I have found outside of the Arthurian books, is Katherine Kurtz' s Deryni Series a Medieval Fantasy that revolves around the Church and the Royal house and it's successors.

I'd start with The Legends of Camber of Culdi Trilogy (Camber of Culdi, Saint Camber, Camber the Heretic) then go from there. This is Medieval fantasy with Magic, Church corruption, Kings and battles and good characterizations.

She also has written about the Knights Templar.

Next would be The Nameless Day by Sara Douglass, part of the Crucible series. Still a Medieval fantasy.
