I'm 19, and need something to read?

I'm an avid reader, and have run out of books to read. I read historical fiction, fiction and non fiction. The last books I read were At World's End and Pillars of the Earth by Ken Foillet(sp). I also enjoy George Orwell, Shakespeare and the like.

I've recently been given a gift card to a book store, and I need some suggestions to pick up when I go.I'm 19, and need something to read?
Stay away from cliche ones like Harry Potter and Twilight. You sound well educated with Shakespeare and Orwell so my suggestion is probably "A clockwork Orange" if you liked 1984. Perhaps an older classic like the Jane Austin book's or Lord of the Flies. If you haven't already got these then they're must have classics:

Phantom of the Opera - Leroux

Dracula - B Stoker

Hunchback of Notre Dame (not for everyone though, lots of architecture)
Since you're reading serious literature, I will recommend several authors. For fiction J.M.Coatzee comes to mind. Joyce Carol Oates, Andre Dubus and Dubus III, Alice Munroe, I could go on and on. I don't read much historical fiction, so I can't help you there.

In non-fiction, I read mostly memoirs. The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannette Walls was heartrending. On the lighter side, A Girl Named Zippy by Haven Kimmel was great.

Try looking for books by authors you've already read or tell one of the people that work there what you've enjoyed and ask for recommendations.I'm 19, and need something to read?
Life After School Explained

By Cap %26amp; Compass ($13.95)

If you're clueless and overwhelmed by what lies in store after you untie yourself from Mom and Dad's purse strings, this is a good book to get your feet wet. It's short and humorous and doesn't weigh you down with a lot of confusing terminology.

I read it cover to cover in about two hours and actually understood what it said -- without my eyes glazing over once. It's sprinkled with witty anecdotes, pop culture references and comic strips to keep the mood light, even though it discusses such heavy-weight topics as choosing a health insurance plan, filling out tax forms and investing your money. It also covers lighter-yet-important subjects, such as how to avoid looking stupid at a business meal, what to wear on your first day of work and what to look for in a good apartment.

If you're a fan of adult fantasy books I would highly recommend R.A. Salvatore's Dark Elf Trilogy. It is an extremely long list of books that he's still in the process of writing but they are amazing. Its a series of trilogies, quartets, and quintets. The story of Drizzt is absolutely amazing.
I suggest A Tale of Ice and Fire - George R.R. Martin. It is absolutely fantastic. Martin makes Tolkein seem like a fifth grader. The first book is called A Game of Thrones. It is one of the best series I have EVER read.
