What's a good novel to read?

I read- Ken Folett's 'Pillars of the Earth' and since then haven't been able to find a novel that stacks up to it---its sooo good.



I need to know what other ppls faourite books are and why??What's a good novel to read?
Pillars is definitely an excellent book. The book I'm recommending to a lot of people is called "Water for Elephants" and it's simply an amazing read. I thought it was actually a little better than 'Pillars of the Earth' just because there were some unneeded sections in Pillars. Not that I'm complaining, loved every page of that book. What's a good novel to read?

Wilbur Smith is the author I enjoy most. His stories take place in Africa and include history and romance and adventure, and with few exceptions do not take place in modern times. His stories are intertwined with a fictional story around a real historical event. He has a four book series that takes place in ancient Egypt. River God,Warlock, The Seventh Scroll and The Quest.
