I really enjoy Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth" and "World Without End", both set in the Middle Ages. I also would put Clavell's "Shogun" as one of my favorites.
I'm not too enthralled with Bernard Cornwell's stuff (Sharpe series, Winter King...) It doesn't seem like his stories are ever going anywhere quick, however well written they may be.
Just wondering if anyone knew of any good historical fiction that seems to "move the story along" without getting too bogged down with drawn-out descriptions of settings and times (etc.).What are some good Historical Fiction writers?
You might enjoy George MacDonald Fraser's 'Flashman' series, which span the military history of most of the 19th century. Flashman is a wonderful character, an outrageous anti-hero whose exploits make enthralling reading.
Jean Auel - Prehistoric fiction like Clan of the Cave Bear or Try Lonesome Dove or Blood Meridion which might be up your alley. What are some good Historical Fiction writers?
Harry Turtledove and S.M.Stirling are a couple of good authors, might check them out.
James Michener is my favorite historical fiction author. My personal favorites are Hawaii, Texas %26amp; Centennial, but every single one of his books is well worth reading..What are some good Historical Fiction writers?
Try The Wintrhop Woman by Anya Seton. It's a fictional biography about the niece of the first governor of Massachusetts. It's got everything from witchcraft, to Indian attacks, to a madman -- and the whole story is true!
