Which book should I read?

I have a choice of these books to read this summer and would love your suggestions. I'll have to annotate and write an essay about the book, so it has to be good for that. I've already read some of them but if you think they would be good to do the assignment on please say so....

Book Number Two:

Choose one novel from the following list. Choose wisely. Some novels contain adult

themes. Read and annotate this novel. You will be required to write an essay on this

novel, so the more in depth your annotations are, the easier it will be to write about the

novel. Be sure to look for major themes. You will be able to use your annotated book

when you write your essay.

Julia Alvarez, In the Time of the Butterflies

Jane Austen, Emma (read it)

Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights (read it)

Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo (read it)

Daphne DuMaurie, Rebecca

Ken Follet, Pillars of the Earth (reading it)

Zora Neal Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God

John Irving, A Prayer for Owen Meany

Tim O鈥橞rien, If I Die in a Combat Zone

Sir Walter Scott, Ivanhoe

John Steinbeck, East of Eden

Amy Tan, The Joy Luck Club

Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse FiveWhich book should I read?
I loved Amy Tan, The Joy Luck Club, Daphne DuMaurie, Rebecca and Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights

Plus you can get CliffNotes for Amy Tan's book...for inspiration of course.
Steinbeck and Vonnegut are very good reads and would be good for an academic work because there are overarching and easily discernible themes in both books that would translate well into a writing assignment. I am not familiar with a lot of those but I would discourage reading Dickens just because I found it hard to follow because it is sometimes hard to understand a lot of the dialect and language from that period.Which book should I read?
i would go for Jane Austen books. She's a fantastic writer. Emma, Sense and Sensibility or Pride and Prejudice are all good.
I think that you should read "Rebecca" by Daphne du Maurier. It's a fast read (not that it's short, by any means), has very clear themes, and should be pretty easy to write an essay on.

If you prefer a more complicated book, I'd go for "A Tale of Two Cities".

It should be easy to find critical analyses on both of these books, if you need help with your essay. Both are also very compelling and well-written.Which book should I read?
Go with Their Eyes Were Watching God.

Their Eyes Were Watching God is Hurston鈥檚 most famous novel. The storyline follows the life of Janie Crawford, a black woman in search of true love and her true self. Both the novel and Hurston were not very well known until 1975, when another African American female writer, Alice Walker, wrote an article entitled "In Search of Zora Neale Hurston."
