Bible literalist group believes that Earth is flat and that NASA is a big lie, what do you think?

The Flat Earth Society (FES) is a group of Bible literalists that believes that the Earth is an unmoving flat circular disc that is situated on pillars, has corners and ends, and they seem to believe that NASA is a big lie, because the photos of Earth taken from space doesn't support their belief of a flat Earth, and they claim that their belief is true because it is written in the Bible...

This is FES's Flat Earth model, it depicts Antarctica as an ice wall surrounding a disk shaped Earth: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/66/Flat_Earth.png/600px-Flat_Earth.png

I'm a Catholic, but I don't take the Bible completely literally like the FES does, I'm not saying that the Bible shouldn't be believed, but it should be taken both literally and metaphorically, and the Bible shouldn't be treated as a science textbook, anyway, these are the Biblical verses from the King James Version Bible that the FES thinks supports their beliefs of a flat Earth:

Isaiah 40:22: It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

Isaiah 11:12: And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

Revelation 7:1: And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

Job 38:13: That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

Jeremiah 16:19: O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.

Daniel 4:11: The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:

Psalm 93:1: The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

Psalm 96:10: Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.

Psalm 104:5: Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.

Job 9:6: Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

Job 38:4: Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

Job 37:3: He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

Job 28:24: For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;

1 Samuel 2:8: He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them.Bible literalist group believes that Earth is flat and that NASA is a big lie, what do you think?
Wall of text warning.

The FES is flat when it comes to thinking, logic, and knowledge. Their interpretation of scripture is one of cherry picking only what they want to believe.

That's my opinion.
too long. did not read. but the hearth IS flat, and nasa is indeed a big lie. where they mistake is that it's not circle, it's square.Bible literalist group believes that Earth is flat and that NASA is a big lie, what do you think?
You have no sense of what the Bible teaches or says, you are projecting upon the Bible your own ignorance.
Don't you know that if you unzip the earth and lay it out after taking out the styrofoam, it becomes flat?Bible literalist group believes that Earth is flat and that NASA is a big lie, what do you think?
I don't think anything of it?

Why do you keep posting questions concerning the Flat Earth Society? Why do you care?
Holy cow. How backwards are these people? Someone needs to take em on a cruise around the damned spherical world
you asked this yesterday %26gt;.%26gt;

my thoughts are the same, they are nutjobs.
they do not know god
They're idiots. In fact it was quite well established even in the Middle Ages, most people knew the world was actually round. If these morons want to believe the world is flat thats fine but thats the most classic case of people believing theories postulated in the Bible over actual evidence. Also they might need to realise that its not only NASA that have shown how the earth isnt flat.
What does God say about the earth?

The earth is dry land.

What does God say about the seas?

The seas are the waters around the dry land,

9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. Gen 1:9-10 (KJV)

----------------------

Every contentent has 4 corners, and in the beginning it seems to me that the earth was all one land not 7 lands as it is now.
This makes me almost as incredulous as when Obama charged the head of NASA with "outreach to the muslim world" as one of his main duties. I suppose the "disproving the Flat Earth" project is coming to an end.

It is also possible that the mistakes one could make by basing their life on a literal interpretation of the Bible may be less eternally damaging than the mistakes one could make by not doing so...just my opinion, though. Throughout the eternal ages, as we walk and talk with a literal Savior, we may get the explanation of why...

If we never make it there, we will never know. Maybe the insecurity of being "right" about science, but 'wrong" about God is too much for these Flat Earth types.
