Why Bible says that the earth is FLAT?

Bible says the earth is flat:

"He sits enthroned about the CIRCLE of the earth..." [Isaiah 40:22]

The Bible says the earth is a circle (note: a 2-D shape) which hangs (does not move). Lol what does that tell us?

Circles are flat. Circles is not a ball or sphere or an egg-sharped object. A circle is a flat round surface, similar to flat rectangular, or square, or triangular surfaces. So if the Bible claims that the earth is a circle then this is still bogus because the earth is obviously not a flat surface. The Most point isaiah 40:22 DOES NOT speak of the spherical earth. So Isaiah 40:22 claiming the earth is flat circle!

"The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all earth" [Daniel, 4:11]

If the earth were flat then a sufficiently tall tree could be seen from anywhere of Earth.

The earth have pillars?!

"He shakes the earth from its place and makes its pillars tremble" [Job 9:6]

"Again, The Devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdom of the world.." [Matthew 4:8]

"The Devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of world" [Luke 4:5]

Now, even if you go to the tallest mountain, the highest mountain in the world(Mount Everest). Now supposingly, you have very good vision, and can see for thousands of miles together. Yet, you will not be able to see all the kingdoms of the world - Because our world is spherical. You will not be able to see kingdom, of the opposite side of the world. THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE, IF THE EARTH WAS FLAT! So, this "Holy" Bible clearly says the Earth is flat!

The flat Earth is established and can never move?!

"He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved" [Psalm 104:5]

"...The world(i.e Earth) is firmly established; it can not be moved" [Psalm 93:1]

I dont think there is any need for more explanation to the nonsense above!

since when the Earth is flat and can never move?!

We all know that the Earth and the other planets rotate and move in space around the Sun.

"That is might take hold of the END OF THE EARTH, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?" [Job 38:13]

Earth have no end because our earth is not flat.

"And he shall set up an ensign for the nation, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH" [Isaiah, 11:12]

"And After these things i saw four angels standing on FOUR CORNER OF THE EARTH.." [Revelation, 7:1]

Its obviouly false and unscientific because the Earth have no corner.

Only flat earth have corner! Why Bible says that the earth is FLAT?
The original-language word translated “circle” at Isaiah 40:22 may also be rendered “sphere.” Certain Bible translations read, “the globe of the earth” (Douay Version) and “the round earth.”—Moffatt.

Bible writers often speak from the standpoint of the observer on the earth, or from his particular position geographically, as we often naturally do today. For example, the Bible mentions “the sunrising.” (Nu 2:3; 34:15) Some have seized upon this as an opportunity to discredit the Bible as scientifically inaccurate, claiming that the Hebrews viewed earth as the center of things, with the sun revolving around it. But the Bible writers nowhere expressed such a belief. These same critics overlook the fact that they themselves use the identical expression and that it is in all of their almanacs. It is common to hear someone say, ‘it is sunrise,’ or ‘the sun has set,’ or ‘the sun traveled across the sky.’ The Bible also speaks of “the extremity of the earth” (Ps 46:9), “the ends of the earth” (Ps 22:27), “the four extremities of the earth” (Isa 11:12), “the four corners of the earth,” and “the four winds of the earth” (Re 7:1). These expressions cannot be taken to prove that the Hebrews understood the earth to be square. The number four is often used to denote that which is fully rounded out, as it were, just as we have four directions and sometimes employ the expressions “to the ends of the earth,” “to the four corners of the earth,” in the sense of embracing all the earth.—Compare Eze 1:15-17; Lu 13:29.
Is that what Mohammad taught, that a circle is flat. The devil showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, They were in the spirit realm, don't allow satan to continue to blind and deceive you. Come to Yeshua/Jesus and be born again, let Him remove the scales from your eyes so that you may see the light...Why Bible says that the earth is FLAT?
As you widen the scope of your reading experiences, you will learn to appreciate literary devices to a greater degree.

Try Googling "four Corners" in travel agencies. Many of them use the term, but surely they don't believe the earth is flat.
If you were to go back in time to when those people's dialect was still active, and gave them this "interpretation" of their peculiar idiomatic ways of speaking, they'd stone you to death for being an idiot. Why Bible says that the earth is FLAT?
you have to ask the Jews because this is part of their Torah.

My assumption is that it's written that way because that's all the people knew about.
Because, like the writers of the Quran, they didn't know any better. Even though the Greeks calculated how far it was around in 300 BCE
Yeah and?

Who said the bible is accurate?

The Bible and Quran FAIL science. Thanks for proving that.
Now it is even MORE obvious why when Jesus walked the earth, he constantly groaned in the spirit at the absolute stupidity of some questions.

First, if you take a rectangle-shaped box, will it sit there as a rectangle box or will it fall flat; so should we then consider any rectangle or square item actually flat?

I suggest you read Job starting at the beginning of Chapter 40 so that you have some actual information. Second, the tree that grew high and strong for all the earth to see is not a plant; it is made very clear that this particular "tree" with its truck, branches meaning arms and legs, and a backbone.....if you know anything about the Hebrew language....is Satan himself.

This is a demonstration of his pride, not of some tree that is planted in the dirt.

Third, "four corners of the Earth" is an ancient idiom (or "saying") that means from one side to the other and everything in between - it means "all of it".

It is obvious that you have no idea about idioms, and certainly no understanding whatsoever of any of the Manuscripts or the languages used: Hebrew, Greek or Chaldee. You are taking words and then applying them to your little pea-size brain and its tiny bit of knowledge of nothing more than English in the year 2010, and trying to cause doubt in people's belief in the Sacred Text.

Unfortunately for you, we have not only the Manuscripts, but we also have all the New Testament footnotes intact (The Massorah) which explains these things in great, great detail. Nice try, though.

You might consider that since there is exactly the same proof of the nonexistence of God as there is the EXISTENCE of the Great God, that you have 50% possibility of not only being wrong, but also setting yourself up as the enemy of your own creator. Not a very smart little human, are you?

I suggest you remain 50% open-minded, and also 50% respectful of something you obviously know not one valid thing about. You think you do, but your post shows nothing more than your complete and absolute ignorance.
I see- as atheists you are unable to see the picture being painted in these verses. So if I were to say to you the sun is rising in the east right now would you argue? Its amazing how many "sayings" like this befuddle atheists. All of these verses were being used to describe something totally encompassing. Atheists are so desperate in their "belief" that they arent even looking at whats happening. The bible was originally written in Hebrew and the word used for corners was Kanaph which meant the extremity. Hebrew texts used kanaph to describe something surrounding everything. Sall I keep going or do you get it now? I do hope you are still confused because I have much much more to tell you. I like teaching atheists common sense. God Bless
To play the theists advocate, they could have meant "sphere" when they said "circle". I don't know that they had a word for "sphere" back then.

To me, the Old Testament of the Bible does suggest that the writers envisioned a flat earth sitting upon pillars, with the sky being a dome and the stars and sun being affixed to this dome and God and Heaven being on the other side of it. However, the writing is somewhat ambiguous and may have been metaphorical. I don't have any knowledge of ancient Hebrew, nor am I a Biblical scholar, so I'll withhold any definitive conclusions.
First of all, the word rendered circle at Isaiah 40:22 can also be translated sphere. Yes circles are flat. If you live in a 2 dimensional world! The scripture in Daniel is not a literal tree but, represents a government entity. The pillars of Job are simply implying a foundation. Same with the terms never being moved. The earth is established within a fixed parameter. As far as the Devil showing Jesus the kingdoms of the world, This was not literal sight. It was a vision of these kingdoms. And the four corners of the earth simply implies the "Complete" earth. These are some of the same arguments that the Catholic church used against Galileo and Copernicus when they were branded as heretics. You need to learn what's literal and what's not when it comes to the Bible.
4 corners could be compass points

but those writers at that time believed the earth to be a flat circle (not a square) (not that it matters much)

much like a disk, isaiah uses the hebrew word for "ball" only several verses from when he called earth a circle. this demonstrates they didnt have god's wll writing through them and were merely rambling the limits of their creativity and knowledge.

God’s truth is always greater than the limited understanding of men as is proven by this article from the June 19, 1965 edition of Science Newsletter (#87:390) which is titled, “Earth Has Four Corners.”

Quoting from this article, which was recovered from microfilm at the Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak Library, we read the following: “The Earth has four corners, measurements made of earth-circling satellites have shown…The four-cornered, or pyramid-like, design was found by calculating the changes in the orbits of globe-girdling satellites. At the center of the high points, the satellites were pulled downward a few hundred feet by the unexpectedly high gravity…The new figure for earth was found by scientists at John Hopkin’s Applied Physics Laboratory in Silver Spring, Md., working under a contract for the U.S. Navy’s Bureau of Naval Weapons.”

The report included a world map that shows all four of the Earth’s high corners are located in the Earth’s oceans and that there are also four low spots, which are additionally found in the vast oceans. Each of the high spots covers several thousand square miles of ocean and were a staggering 220 feet “higher” than what the equalized average depth of the ocean should be in that area. The low points on the other hand are apx. 253 feet “below” [what should be] the stabilized oceans average.
Do Not the bible literally! When the old testament was written just about Every Culture believed the world was flat. They had no way of knowing it was a sphere.

Just because they used metaphorical language does not make the entire book worthless. These stories are the creation myths and stories/histories of the Hebrew people and are just as valid, in their own right, as the myths of the Greeks, or the Persians, or the Native Americans. Those have scientific falsehoods in this also, but I don't see people ripping Those stories apart!
